Our Baby- Week 8

Our baby is growing!!!! We get to hear the heartbeat on Wednesday. I am so excited, I can hardly stand it. Obviously, I know that I am PG.. my body is changing daily.. and I am so tired.. but I want to hear/see the baby.. make sure that everything is really ok. Its exciting!! Here is the update on our precious one.

By the 8th week, the embryo is now called a fetus which means 'young one' and really starts to look like a tiny human being. Its intestines are getting longer and for about another month, will protrude into the umbilical cord. Although you can't tell the gender of the baby by looking at it (you can with genetic testing), little buds that will become the baby's genitalia start to grow. Your baby is nearly 1 - 1 ½" long and the size of a grape. She weighs almost ½ ounce. All the internal organs that she will need as an infant have been formed and will continue to mature. Her heart is now divided into four distinct chambers ad her hands, fingers, feet and toes are fully formed. All of the major joints of her body are visible. Her face is becoming more human-like as her mouth, nose and nostrils are formed, earlobes are evident and all the structures of the eyes are recognizable.

And a fun fact about whats happening to me:
Even though your body hasn't taken on the contour of pregnancy and you are tired a good deal of the time, you might have difficulty enjoying restful sleep at night. A most unusual change is occurring - you start to adapt to the sleep patterns of a newborn infant. You get less deep sleep but more REM sleep. In the latter state, you are more aware of your environment and can awaken more easily. Your metabolism starts to match the newborn so you can attend to her throughout the night.

Every step of this journey, makes me realize even more fully the amazingness of our God!

That's so exciting! Yes, hearing the heartbeat for the first time is one of the most wonderful things in the world! We've been feeling our sweet baby kicking around in there for a few weeks now, and tonight Matt actually got to SEE the baby kick - amazing! :) Let me know how the appointment goes!
